Organise the Dutch Trade Mission event in the city of Detroit.

Description |
Simon Smits, Vice Minister for Foreign Trade of the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, lead the trade mission to Detroit on May 31, 2015, featuring 25 organizations from the Dutch agriculture, food, and greenhouse technology sectors. The trade mission took place on the eve of the official visit to the United States of Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. Under the theme “Feeding the City & Healthier Food,” the mission aims to establish business relations and partnerships between Dutch organizations and their American counterparts. Except Integrated Sustainability co-organized the trade event with the ministry. This included the venue and catering arrangements, arrange keynote speakers, exploration tour for participants to highlights Detroit, matchmaking between American and Dutch counterparts, workshop around the themes Feeding the City and Healthy living, network opportunities, and the production of a Dutch/American trade promotion film.

Approach |
A multinational team from local (Detroit) and Dutch team members worked simultaneously on the various event elements to be arranged. The team worked in close cooperation with the Detroit Mayor’s office, Regional Chamber of Commerce, Detroit Future City, Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, the Dutch Consulate in Chicago and many others to make the event a success.

Results |
The Trade Mission event in Detroit was one of the highlights of the Dutch Trade Mission to the USA and Canada which keynote speeches from the Deputy Mayor and the launch of various initiatives under the Detroit Urban ReGen umbrella.
